Swiss Re Corporate Solutions wins Best International Campaign at the Swiss Sponsorship Awards

On 9 February 2017, Swiss Re Corporate Solutions won Best International Campaign at the Swiss Sponsorship Awards ceremony in Zurich. This award recognized our partnership with Solar Impulse, an aircraft that can fly day and night using only solar energy, during its around-the-world flight. Our global communications team is honoured to win in this competitive category and to have had the opportunity to help Solar Impulse make their pioneering dream a reality. 

We began our collaboration with Solar Impulse in 2012, when we became one of its official partners and its sole insurance provider. Our Solar Impulse sponsorship campaign, which promoted the plane's circumnavigation of the globe, helped enhance our brand and explain the role of insurance in managing the risks of ambitious and complex projects. This partnership is our first global sponsorship campaign.

Now in its fifth year, the Swiss Sponsorship Awards celebrates sponsorships originating in Switzerland across all sectors. Winners are selected by a jury of industry experts who assess sponsorships based on their originality, innovation, professionalism, outreach and ability to support business goals. Innovation and sustainability were among common sponsorship themes in 2016. The industry is increasingly influenced by digitalisation, where a sponsorship's success depends on social media outreach and the effective use of data for campaign optimisation. The judges commended our collaboration with the HISTORY channel to create Flight for the Future: Pioneers in Risk, a series of short films focusing on various aspects of risk management. The eight episodes aired on HISTORY during the around-the-world flight and produced over 43 million views on-air and online. 

Other companies shortlisted in the Best International Campaign category included ABB, a global leader in industrial technology, for its sponsorship of Solar Impulse as well as Julius Baer, a private Swiss Bank, for its partnership with Formula-E.

  • Best digital activation concept of the year: Jeep with Montreux Jazz Festival
  • Best sponsorship of the year in all categories (public award): Julius Baer with Formula E.
